The Story Behind
After months of burnout, I applied for a competitive internship at the Nghe An Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment—and was fortunate to be accepted. Initially, I imagined a tense and demanding environment, one filled with pressure and hierarchy. Yet the more I showed up for different projects, the more I was met with warmth and generosity. Colleagues guided me patiently, taking the time to explain, mentor, and help me grow in ways I hadn’t expected before.
During my internship, I conducted over 35 structured interviews with farming households across Nghi Loc District to evaluate the effectiveness of provincial agricultural support policies. Beyond data collection, the experience deepened my understanding of how policy frameworks translate into daily realities—where climate uncertainty, digital illiteracy, and limited market access often shape the boundaries of growth. I assisted in translating policy documents on subsidies, land-use, and environmental protection into Vietnamese, ensuring they reached farmers in a clear and actionable way. Later, by supporting digital transformation programs that introduced e-commerce platforms to local artisans and OCOP producers, I witnessed how even small policy initiatives could catalyze tangible change.
The internship strengthened my belief that sustainable development relies not only on sound policy design but also on empathy-driven implementation—bridging the gap between institutions and the communities they serve.
